The C-5 Galaxy provided the perfect background for a motorcycle ride to more than 240 motorcycle enthusiasts, including 10 riders from the 445th Airlift Wing, participating in the 5th Annual Spring Motorcycle Event May 29.

The purpose of the day, which was held at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, was to inform all base motorcycle riders about safe driving habits. Riders at the event had the opportunity to listen to safety briefs from the base safety office, the Ohio State Patrol, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the California Superbike School.

The highlight of the day was the group ride. The ride consisted of a variety of on and off-base trails, to include the west ramp.

Master Sgt. Mark Lockhart, 445th Aircraft Maintenance Group, was the point of contact for the 445th AW and coordinated the wing's involvement for the ride.

"There were ten of us representing the wing that met in Building 4012 for a safety briefing and then we rode to the museum together," Sergeant Lockhart said.

Master Sgt. Jeff Wittman, 445th Maintenance Group, just bought a brand new motorcycle in time for the ride. He's been without a motorcycle for the last 3-4 years. "This was a great opportunity to hear the safety briefings and to ride and meet riders from all over the base," Sergeant Wittman said.

Sergeant Lockhart praised the base for doing a good job putting the event together. "I thought it went real well again this year. It's a good program and I recommend riders take advantage of what the event has to offer," Sergeant Lockhart said.
