655th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing

The 655th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Wing is an Independent wing under the 10th Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The organization officially became a wing Sept. 20, 2018, consisting of two Groups and 14 Classic Associate Unit intelligence squadrons across seven different states conducting 10 distinct missions.

    655 ISRW team wins award during Rise of the Digital Wingman Campaign

    Over the summer, a three-person team from the 655th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing went above and beyond their required job tasks and entered a virtual robot in to the Rise of the Digital Wingman competition, a Chief of Staff of the Air Force initiative.
  • The 512th Intelligence Squadron has achieved Full Operational Capability (FOC) for national cyber mission, becoming a fully mission proficient Reserve unit. The achievement was made Feb.1, 2020 and occurred seven months earlier than originally planned.

    On July 14-15 and 21-22, 2020, Airmen from the 512 Intelligence Squadron participated in an interactive, live training experience hosted by their Classic Associate Unit (CAU) the 41st Intelligence Squadron.
  • The Lamar family pitches in to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for those in need in the local area. Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 23rd Intelligence Squadron donated more than 1,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the last month to local San Antonians in need.

  • Airmen from the 23rd Intelligence Squadron organized and executed a first-ever, unit-wide Publicly Available Information (PAI) training session June 6, 2020. The goal of the training was to educate 23 IS Airmen with PAI best practices and highlight the capabilities that PAI brings to intelligence operations.

The goal of the training was to educate 23 IS Airmen with PAI best practices and highlight the capabilities that PAI brings to intelligence operations.

  • 23 IS achieves full operational capability for combat cyber mission forces

    The 23rd Intelligence Squadron achieved full operational capability (FOC) after almost three years of hard work and three months ahead of when originally projected.

  • 23 IS conducts unique virtual training event

    On June 7th, 2020, Airmen from the 23rd Intelligence Squadron organized an interactive, live training experience for the squadron’s first virtual unit training assembly (UTA). Three Airmen from the squadron used an online educational tool, as well as a video teleconferencing platform to organize a spirited 90 minute training session.
  • The 28th Intelligence Squadron is an intelligence unit located at Hurlburt Field, Florida.

    28 IS TSOs: key contributors to SOF mission success

    At the 28th Intelligence Squadron, there’s a career field that has been making strides as the squadron continues to grow. That career field is Tactical Systems Operator (TSO) specialty of the 1A8X2 – Airborne ISR Operator Air Force Specialty Code.

    When faced with the dilemma of being unable to connect in-person for their April unit training assembly, the 71st Intelligence Squadron was forced to adapt to these challenging times while still maintaining mission readiness … they held a virtual UTA.
  • Each winter, the 14th Intelligence Squadron has an annual tradition of reviewing and updating goals for the calendar year. In 2019, the squadron added an entirely new goal: to execute one official continuous process improvement event. The intent was to identify an internal process that was within their purview and to evaluate and improve it, yielding CPI experience for squadron practitioners and an improved process for the squadron.

    Continuous process improvement key to 14 IS continued success

    Each winter, the 14th Intelligence Squadron has an annual tradition of reviewing and updating goals for the calendar year. Led by Lt. Col. Ben Smallwood, 14 IS commander, the squadron carried out this tradition once again in January 2019 and added an entirely new goal: to execute one official Continuous Process Improvement event that year.

    655th ISR Wing receives new commander

  • Four 445 AW; two 655th ISRW officers selected for colonel

    Headquarters Air Reserve Personnel Center officials announced results for the Calendar Year 2019 Air Force Reserve Line and Non Line Colonel Promotion Selection Boards today. The boards selected more than 190 Citizen Airmen for promotion.

  • 23rd IS Airmen organize, host PAI working group

    From Nov. 5-8, 2019, Airmen from the 23rd Intelligence Squadron organized and hosted Air Combat Command’s Publicly Available Information Working Group (PAI WG). Members from throughout the Department of Defense met to discuss PAI success stories, identify and implement best practices, and determine the way forward for program growth.

  • Master Sgt. David Meyers, 718th Intelligence Squadron, works with Staff Sgt. Pike Pemsteiner, 45th Intelligence Squadron, on the Gorgon Stare 2 sensor program. Meyers was recommended to help the 45th IS with the GS 2 program because he had previous program management and training experience, to continue building the capability.

    718th IS supports sister squadron

    A key component to total force integration relationships is providing critical support to host units. This past year Master Sgt. David Meyers, 718th Intelligence Squadron, stepped up to assist the 718th IS’ sister unit, the 45th Intelligence Squadron, as forensic intelligence program manager, responsible for a team of 23 analysts who conducted 24/7 Gorgon Stare 2 (GS2) Post-Ingest Exploitation (PIE) imagery analysis.

    The 718th Intelligence Squadron, assigned to the 655th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Wing, was requested to attend Trident Spectre 19 where it had the opportunity to engage in the development of innovative intelligence technology.

    Staff Sgt. Breona Calvert, 50th Intelligence Squadron, commander’s support staff, not only volunteered for the Yuba Sutter 20th Year Stand Down event August 21-23 2019, she found the event a great learning experience and rewarding. The event was held at the Cotton Rosser Pavillion, Riverfront Park in Marysville, California.

    Building stronger Airmen through Resiliency Total Force Partnerships

    The stress of performing operations for an extended time, frequent deployments and exposure to extreme violence eventually takes a toll on Airmen. The 655th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Wing, 718th Intelligence Squadron, makes taking care of Airmen a priority, providing services and events designed to discuss and actively participate in team resilience training.

    655th ISR Wing reservist aids Dayton area tornado victims

    May 28, 2019 saw a record 18 tornados touch down in Ohio with several of those causing massive destruction in the communities around Dayton. Among the most affected areas were Miami, Montgomery and Greene counties.
  • Thirteen Airmen from the 718th Intelligence Squadron participated in a community outreach project with the Hampton Clean City Commission. In honor of Earth Day, they coordinated a beach cleanup for the Grandview Island Nature Preserve in Hampton. The team collected three bags of trash and removed several large crab traps and other large items and debris.

    The 655th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing’s 718th Intelligence Squadron, based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, remains actively involved in serving the community, representing Air Force values to the public and helping those in need.
