The third annual Air Force Sergeants Association Active Duty vs. Reserves Softball Challenge was held here July 24 with the active duty team earning another win in their book.

One notable play was by Tech. Sgt. Greg Sparks, 445th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, who hit an in-the-park home run for the reserve team. "Although the active duty team hit eight balls over the fence, we were able to get a home run inside the park. This was definitely a highlight of the game," Sergeant Sparks said.

Despite the larger crowd, heckles from Chief Master Sgt. Peri Rogowski, 445th Airlift Wing command chief, and scoring first, the game sadly went to the active duty team by a score of 31-17.

Players from both sides seemed to have an easy going attitude between them.

"Most of us play together during the week," Tech. Sgt. Brian Knouse, 445th Operational Support Squadron, said.

The event attracted many 445th reserve members and their families to the game. The Air Force Sergeants Association served hot dogs and ice cold beverages during the game for a donation.

Although the game did not go as planned, everyone was in great spirits afterward. This goes to show that even though there was competition at hand, good sportsmanship, fairness, and fun remained ahead of competition.

"It's fun and a good time," Maj. John Marang, 87th Aerial Port Squadron, said.
The active duty team now leads the series 2-1.
