Eleven reservists from the 445th Security Forces Squadron left Ohio for Japan Nov. 18 for a 180-day assignment to back fill the active duty security forces members who are deploying to Southwest Asia.

While in Japan, five Airmen will be assigned to the 18th Security Force Squadron, Kadena Air Base, Japan, and six Airmen will be assigned to the 374th Security Forces Squadron, Yokota Air Base, Japan.

"This is a 100 percent voluntary assignment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We received word that Pacific Air Forces Command needed volunteers to help augment the active duty security forces squadrons in Japan whose Airmen are currently deployed. Our reservists stepped up to the plate and volunteered to help backfill those positions," Master Sgt. Walter Bennett, 445th SFS, said.

"I couldn't pass up this great opportunity. I've always wanted to see Japan," said Staff Sgt. Mouk Chounlamany, one of the SFS volunteers.

Senior Airman Sherry Houston recently returned from a deployment to Southwest Asia and didn't hesitate to volunteer for the assignment. "I'm really looking forward to going to Japan. I've been to Korea and Southwest Asia, but never to Japan. This is going to be a great experience," Airman Houston said.
