WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne Bass visited with Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 655th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing during her visit to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio Oct. 2, 2021.
During her visit to the wing, Bass received a wing overview briefing and participated in an enlisted call. At the enlisted call, she coined Tech. Sgt. Jana Palant, 655th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group NCO in charge of readiness and training for being an exceptional performer in her unit.
Palant provided primary support to a quick-turn tasker in support of Operation Allies Welcome (OAW). She immediately engaged with five units, identifying 160 possible linguists that could be short-noticed tasked to support OAW translator duties. Once the tasking came from Air Force Reserve Command, she rapidly notified three chains of command and started responding the potential deployer questions. Within 24 hours of the deployment requirement, Palant’s efforts led to the deployment of six linguists in support of OAW and ensured the safe evacuation and amalgamation of more than 6,000 vulnerable Afghans into the United States.
