WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- For the first time, members of the 38th Intelligence Squadron (38 IS) visited cadets from the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program at Tracy Unified School District’s West High School in Tracy, California, on April 25, 2025.
The West High JROTC unit recently earned its second consecutive “Exceeds Standards” rating during an inspection by Headquarters Air Force JROTC Regional Director Al Thompson earlier this year.
TSgt Raul Lara, facilitated the visit alongside members of the 38 IS and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), offering mentorship and an inside look at the life of a reservist.
“I was thrilled to have the opportunity to interact with the local JROTC program right here in my hometown,” said Lara. “It was remarkable to discover how many members within our unit had ties to the school, whether through family or prior engagements with the JROTC leadership.”
The 38 IS team shared real-world experiences, guidance, and discussed career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields with more than 30 cadets. The students asked questions and gained insight into balancing Air Force Reserve duties with civilian careers, as well as advice on selecting a path in the Reserve.
“It really exemplifies how interconnected our community is,” said Lara. “This event felt like a meaningful way to give back and help motivate the future leaders of our Air Force."
Events like these highlight the 655 ISRW’s dedication to mentoring and developing the next generation of Air Force leaders.
