The 71st Intelligence Squadron located here recently reached its full operational capability becoming a fully operational capable unit.

The 71st Intelligence Squadron is a subordinate to the 655th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Group at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio and is a total force integration member unit of the National Air and Space Intelligence Center here. The unit provides a cadre of multi-disciplined, mission-ready Scientific Applications Specialists and Intelligence Analysts to the National Air and Space Intelligence Center. Squadron personnel conduct strategic-level research and analysis, providing intelligence to senior Department of Defense leaders, joint/combined forces, combatant commanders and component commanders.

The 71st IS consists of 54 reserve personnel and was activated in September 2013. With FOC reached August 2015, this means the squadron has sufficiently trained intelligence personnel to fulfill the mission requirements levied by its active duty customer, NASIC.

"I couldn't be more proud of the dedicated, professional men and women of the 71st IS. They worked very hard to ensure we delivered the best trained reserve support possible for this new and complex mission," Lt. Col. Julie Spears, 71st IS commander said.

The 71st Intelligence Squadron's mission is to support NASIC's Geospatial Intelligence/Measurement and Signature Intelligence Squadron. Its mission is to organize, train, and equip Air Force reservists to anticipate and respond to requirements of operational planners and decision-makers at the air operations center, numbered Air Force and theater combatant command levels with tailored and relevant products to include all-source intelligence and GEOINT/MASINT. The Squadron will execute, collect, analyze and disseminate specialized intelligence data derived from national and tactical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms.
