Donors turn out for blood drive held at the 445th Airlift Wing
Airman 1st Class Alexander Myers, 88th Air Base Wing Medical Center laboratory technician, prepares to take blood from Tech. Sgt. Michael Benzing, 445th Maintenance Group, plans, scheduling and documentation office, during a blood drive held at the 445th Airlift Wing Jan. 27, 2017. The event was sponsored by the 445th Aerospace Medicine Squadron for the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Blood Donor Center. Nine units of blood was collected. According to the WPAFB Donor Center, type O blood is 45 percent of all Americans and O positive is 85 percent as compared to O negative. Type O positive can be given to anyone regardless of their blood type and with war-time injuries. One trauma victim may require 40-plus units. One donation can save up to three people.
