Senior Airman Stephanie Gillespie, front, 445th Maintenance Squadron fabrication flight non-destructive inspection technician, shoots water at another boat as her fellow squadron teammates, Staff Sgt. Lawrence Depasquale, middle, and Master Sgt. Bradley Swindall, back, both 445th MXS aircraft structural maintenance mechanics, paddle during the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Cardboard Boat Regatta held on base at Patterson Pool June 30, 2023. The 445th MXS team made their boat, Ship for Brains, out of cardboard, glue and tape. They won “The Packed Pontoon Award” for most people on a boat. Additionally, they won the “Soggy Bottom Award” for having the last boat standing during the battle royal in which the participants attempt to sink each other’s boats by ramming or filling with water by use of water guns or buckets. Ten teams participated in the event this year with more than 100 people in attendance.
