More than 20 volunteers from the 445th Airlift Wing participated in the 2012 Dayton Veteran's Affairs Homeless Stand Down Oct. 19 at the Dayton VA Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio. The wing volunteers along with VA staff members helped more than 300 homeless veterans by handing out donated clothing items and visiting with the men and women that came through the line. The one day event not only provided free clothing to the veterans but also provided them with food, shelter, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as housing, employment and substance abuse treatment.

Wing volunteers spent the morning sorting and organizing the donated clothing items by size and type to make it easier to hand out when the veterans came through. The veterans had the opportunity to not only receive clothing items but also a sleeping bag, blanket, shoes and toiletries.

The 445th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron set up a display on the grounds for the veterans to learn about the AES mission.
