Imagine living without a sofa to sit on, no pots or pans to cook your food, and no dining table or chairs to enjoy a nice meal.

Military members living with these circumstances can rest easy and have no fear, for the Airman's Attic is here to help.

The Airman's Attic, run by volunteers at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, supplies donated items such as chairs, couches, dining room sets, pots and pans, lamps, dishes, washers, dryers and other household goods to those who qualify.

Active-duty Airmen, and reservists with Title 10 orders, who are E-4 and below and civilians GS-5 and below are eligible to use this program. Military families needing furniture and other items due to an accident, natural disaster or are other special circumstances may also be eligible.

"This program helps to offset the financial cost of establishing a new home," says Beverley Knight-Stukenborg, A&FRC community readiness technician. "I think this program has remained successful for more than ten years because this helps our young people to save money."

Knight-Stukenborg says she has recently donated tables and chairs because she understands younger Airmen have a greater financial need.

"I am a prior Navy service member, and we didn't have a program like this, but this is a great program for those in need and we're glad to help. We always encourage people to help other Airmen by giving."

The Airman's Attic is located on base in Area A, Building 2. They welcome most donations; however, they cannot accept food, bedding, clothing or children's toys due to safety precautions and health reasons.

For more information, to volunteer, to donate or to schedule a donation drop-off, call Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at (937) 257-3592.
