The spouse of a 445th Security Forces reservist was selected as the wing's Spouse of the Year 2009 during the 445th Airlift Wing's Annual Awards Banquet May 1. This is the first time the award has been presented at the wing.

Mrs. Lenore Myers, wife of Master Sgt. Greg Myers, was presented the award by Col. Stephen Goeman, 445 AW commander, along with Chief Master Sgt. Peri Rogowski, 445 AW command chief, and guest speaker for the banquet, retired Major Gen. Edward Mechenbier. The period of service for the award was Jan. 1 thru Dec. 31, 2009.

Sergeant Myers submitted his wife based on the many accomplishments she has done for the wing and community.

During 2009, Mrs. Myers was the liaison between 445th SFS senior staff, deployed members and their families and loved ones. During that time, she helped several spouses with personal issues; to include one spouse going through surgery who needed help with transportation and babysitting arrangements. She also shared her personal experiences with spouses and significant loved ones that were new to the Air Force lifestyle and deployments.

Projects under her leadership included raising money for needed items for residents staying at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center; serving as a volunteer with the Cystic Fibrosis Walkathon; participating active member and supporter of her church; directing multiple church-based organizations; and serving as a troop leader for her Girl Scout troop.

Other volunteer efforts included leading a care package drive in her community with spouses of deployed reservists and being a Sunday school and junior church teacher, teaching faith and values to her students.

Mrs. Myers was given a plaque and a gift card.
