Master Sgt. Larry Stulz, 445th Airlift Wing Ground Safety Office, practices what he preaches when it comes to recreational safety. He has enjoyed the sport of kayaking close to 20 years but still attends refresher training and water safety courses annually. "It is good to know your limits and revisit the basics of whatever activity you participate in at least once a year" Sergeant Stulz stated. "Whatever the activity, indoors or outdoors, there are risks involved. It is easy to fall into the rut of complacency and over-confidence and that can kill you." The Air Force Summer Safety Campaign is there to remind all wing personnel to have a safe summer. Click here to view Summer Safety Video

To launch the campaign, the top Air Force safety officer appears in a video to highlight the "101 Critical Days of Summer", which starts May 23 and ends Sept. 2. In the production, Maj. Gen. Wendell Griffin, the Air Force Chief of Safety and commander of the Air Force Safety Center, addresses driving, riding motorcycles, water sports and other recreational activities. Memorial Day through Labor Day is a season of greater risk to Airmen because they spend more time traveling and engaged in outdoor activities in the summer than they do in the fall, winter and spring.
