Reservist saves lives from flood waters Published March 27, 2008 By Mary Allen 445th Airlift Wing WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio -- Please help us! Help us! After heavy rains fell days prior, the sound of screams came from rushing water as Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Greg Sersion, who is also a reservist with the 445th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, runs to the scene March 19, 2008. Holding on for their lives, two young ladies were barely above water gripping a concrete culvert drainage pipe submerged inside of a flooded creek that was sucking them inside at Symmes Township Park near Cincinnati, Ohio. "I had to save them," Master Sgt. Greg Sersion said, "I have two girls of my own. I went into the creek slowly creeping out towards them and one by one lifted the girls under their arms and got them out." With cuts and scrapes all over their legs, they were cold and shivering, and hypothermia was setting in. "I knew I had to get them out," Sergeant Sersion said. Time was essential. Thankfully, Sergeant Sersion was able to get both girls to safety. Sergeant Sersion was honored March 26, 2008 by the Hamilton County commissioners for going beyond the call of duty. Another example of the excellent people we have the privilege of working with here in the 445th Airlift Wing!
