445th MXS conducts annual confined space training
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Airmen from the 445th Maintenance Squadron participated in and were evaluated for their annual organizational rescue team hands-on training exercise Aug. 6. The training event was a confined space rescue scenario using the underbelly of a 445th Airlift Wing C-17 Globemaster III in Hangar 4007. The scenario began when an individual (a training dummy was used) entered the aircraft underfloor maintenance tunnel and was found unresponsive and had to be extracted from that tight space. Tech. Sgt. Brian Phillips, 445th MXS maintenance aircraft fuels systems entry supervisor, said the training is important because if someone ever passes out in the tank, they know how to get them out safely and quickly and can start emergency actions such as CPR or automated external defibrillator until after the fire department arrives.
