Reserve units supporting Patriot Hook exercise Published April 20, 2016 LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - -- The sight and sound of large C-5M Super Galaxy and C-17A Globemaster III aircraft will become familiar to local residents April 20-25 as Operation Patriot Hook takes center stage at Joint Forces Training Base and Los Alamitos Army Airfield. Patriot Hook is a multi-service exercise coordinated by the Air Force Reserve that is designed to integrate military, federal, state and local agencies, and provide training in quickly mobilizing and deploying first responders in the event of a regional emergency or natural disaster. As the only federal airfield in Los Angeles and Orange counties, LAAAF is a critical asset for delivering civil support to the region should disaster strike. JFTB is one of three sites that will simulate forward operating bases during Patriot Hook, in which more than 300 military, federal and state personnel will test their security, medical and disaster-response skills while practicing the movement of personnel, vehicles and equipment over the duration of the six-day exercise. The other exercise sites are Naval Air Station North Island and Naval Auxiliary Landing Field San Clemente Island. In addition to the Cal Guard, organizations participating in this year's exercise include the Coast Guard, FBI Rapid Deployment Team Los Angeles, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency California Task Forces, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. This year marks the 29th iteration of the annual Patriot Hook exercise. The Air Force Reserve's 433rd Airlift Control Flight based at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, is serving as the lead agency, while other participating Air Force Reserve units include the 445th Airlift Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, the 452nd Air Mobility Wing, March Air Reserve Base, California, the 439th Airlift Wing, Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts, and the 315th ALCF, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. Patriot Hook flight operations are planned to be conducted during normal LAAAF operating hours.
