Save the date for WPAFB Retiree Appreciation Day Published Sept. 3, 2009 By Derek Kaufman 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Military retirees in southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and eastern Indiana may want to highlight Friday, Nov. 13 on their calendars. That's the date of the next Retiree Appreciation Day at the Hope Hotel here. The annual event features guest speakers, free medical screening, refreshments, information booths and door prizes. It's geared for all military retirees, spouses, widows, along with those who are nearing retirement, said retired Col. Paul Moore, director of Wright-Patt's Retiree Activities Office. One of the biggest draws is expected to be Retired Army Maj. Gen. William Matz, president of the National Association for the Uniformed Services, an advocacy organization for military members and retirees. Matz frequently engages retiree and veteran audiences across the country, updating them on proposed legislation and the latest changes to health care and other benefits. "Each year we've gotten bigger, and based on feedback from attendees, better as well," Col. Moore said. "Last year Maj. Gen. Matz had a standing room only crowd come to listen to his perspectives on retiree benefits. We're delighted he agreed to return to explain these important issues and answer questions." Providers from more than 50 information and helping agencies will man booths, offer literature and answer questions. Door prizes will be provided by sponsors including Army-Air Force Exchange Service, the Defense Commissary Agency and others. Free refreshments are available from 7 - 8 a.m., followed by an 8 a.m. opening ceremony. After an available lunch buffet, manned informational displays and free medical screenings will be open from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Hope Hotel is adjacent to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Gate 12A at Bldg. 823, Area A, near State Route 444 in Fairborn, Ohio.
