The 445th Airlift Wing held a short memorial and remembrance service Sept. 11 at the flagpole outside the 445th AW headquarters building. The service was held at 9:43 a.m. to remember and honor those who lost their lives at that precise moment in time eight years ago when the Pentagon was struck by hijacked American Airlines Flight 77.

Chaplain (Maj.) William Dickens, Jr., and Chaplain (Capt.) Jonathan Kollmann, both from the 445th AW, led the service attended by a handful of members from the wing.

A piece of the Pentagon that was salvaged from the rubble on that fateful day was donated to the wing and is on display at the flagpole.
